Lopez visits tsunami-damaged Chiba surf spot

Japanese-American surfing god Gerry Lopez paid a visit on Sept. 9 to the Iioka coast, a local surfing spot hit hard by the March 11 Tsunami, and a friend whose surf shop was also damaged.

The 62-year-old Hawaiian, who rode the waves at Iioka in the 1970s, is credited with developing the modern surfing style, and also appeared in the 1978 cult classic surfing film Big Wednesday.
