Japan’s Kanoa Igarashi in Team Visa Commercial
Leading up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, we can expect to see a plethora of new TV commercials and sponsorships for athletes competing. Recently one of Japan’s surfing gold medal hopes, Kanoa Igarashi has just been featured in a new TV commercial for VISA Debit.
The new commercial which features Igarashi riding a wave of Visa Debit cards, is promoting VISA as the Olympic Official Settlement Technology Sponsor.
Whilst the ‘cashless’ society has well and truly taken hold in western countries, Japan has mostly held out to still be a predominantly cash based society – so one can only assume VISA is trying to appeal to more citizens to make the move to cashless in the lead up to the Olympics.
Either way it’s great to see a major player like VISA get behind a pro surfer like Igarashi, which will no doubt increase the reach of the sport for the 2020 Olympics.
