World Surfing Games 2019 – Japan to host Olympic Qualifying

The ISA (International Surfing Association) recently announced the the first direct qualifier for surfing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be held in September this year.

This September 7-15, the World Surfing Games will hold a qualifying event at Kisakihama Beach in Miyazaki Prefecture.

ISA President Fernando Aguerre said, “Japan has demonstrated time and again their exceptional organizational capacity by hosting major ISA events, so we’re excited and proud to return to this amazing country for the third consecutive year with our flagship event.”

Being the host nation, Japan will receive one automatic entry in the Olympic draw and also have a chance to earn another.

Kisakihama is a big, open beachbreak north of Miyazaki City, and is renowned for having intense crowds during the summer surfing season.
